This is an interactive viewer of the cosmological simulation BlueTides (Feng et al. MNRAS, submitted, 2015 ). The hydrodynamical simulation uses near 700 billion particles (half gas, half dark matter) to track the motion of baryons, dark matter in a 400 Mpc/h (about 2 billion light years) box all the way till z=8, when the universe is about 600 million years old. This tool is based on Gigapan.
In order to provide a visually pleasing number density of galaxies, we wrapped the simulation box 1600 times into a 10 Mpc/h box.
The galaxies (subhalos) are labelled with green crosses. If a galaxy is the central galaxy of the cluster (group), the cross has a circle. Currently selected galaxy is surrounded by a rectangle. We limit the number of galaxies shown to 40 most massive ones, but it can be changed in "Number of Galaxies".
To switch between different snapshots, use the dropdown box "Snapshot". To switch between different layers, use the dropdown box "Layers". To jump to a cluster, type its ID and click "Jump". To search for galaxies in the current view, click "Search".
Click on a label and zoom onto the galaxy. The properties of the
galaxy is shown in a pop up.
